Freshman Representative
Position Assessment- Assessment Thus far, as a Freshman Representative, I have worked with my peers designing t-shirts, setting up for PowWow, setting up for Club Rush, and representing the class of 2025. We sold an incredible amount of t-shirts at PowWow and ClubRush totaling over 120. Currently, we are trying our best to get all the t-shirts to the awaiting students. As of ClubRush, I have helped write out every freshman’s name on a paper and stuck it to a window. As of homecoming, we have discussed who is going to bring the trailer, and what the theme is. We need to keep up our hard work and execute Homecoming successfully.
Standing Committee- This year I wish to be a part of the Pride Tribe Standing Committee in Ripon High. As of Club Rush, Pride Tribe is working on recruiting as many members as possible. They have also been trying to sell t-shirts to others. Pride Tribe’s main goal is to enforce the school spirit. They achieve this by going to sporting events and cheering on our Indians. Just overall, try to impact Ripon High positively.
Special Committee- Thus far into the year, I am not on a special committee. However, for the back-to-school dance, I will help with setting up the fencing, and anything else that needs to be done.
Mentor-ship- Spencer Redula, ASB Team, and Sophomore Officer has been my mentor. He has assisted me with the fundamentals of leadership (journal + website + homework), how to manage time, help with paperwork, and helped during registration and Club Rush. I’ve reached out to him many times and he has gotta back to me with extremely helpful tips. I instantly felt a strong bond and felt at ease with his guidance.
Concerns- There are a few concerns I wish to address. One of my concerns is communication. I feel like I am not really notified about what’s going on. For example, some of my friends outside of leadership knew the dance was being rescheduled before I did. Being a Freshman Representative I should be informed with the information to help drive a consistent message across campus. Another concern I have is explanations about assignments. For example, I had no idea what an ASB Report even was. I had to figure out what it was on my own. I also had no clue that we would be making a website, or even how to construct one. I wish during the summer, we would be told about it and given tools on how to create one.
Positive Comment- Throughout the past few weeks, I would give applause to everyone for working so well together. I feel as if everyone has gotten along with each other well. Some of us have never met before and we have been getting along and working well together without any conflicts. Another positive comment would have to go out to the upperclassmen. Sometimes it feels like they just want to pick on freshmen, but this Leadership class has been very inclusive and welcoming. I have reached out to David Wang on multiple occasions and he has been a very good resource. He has provided me with wisdom and excellent advice.
One Change- One change I would love to see in the Leadership program is better communication and relaying information. It has come to my reality that with all of this wonderful technology and gadgets, we seem to struggle with how we communicate. I feel as if I am the last to know about changes and what’s going on. Again that could just be me, but I would want communication to be better in the Leadership program.
My Impact- Throughout the beginning of the school year, I feel as if I have made an impact by hanging out with friends and other people I have never met before. Whenever I’m with my comrades, there are many laughs to be shared, and it’s overall just a positive feeling and experience. I also think when we are around others they feed off our energy. When I hang out with others, especially when I’m in a good mood, I feel as if they are impacted positively.
October Formal ASB Meeting

Freshman Representative
Position Assessment- So far as a Freshman Representative, things have been quite busy. Homecoming was very busy and impacted my schedule immensely. My peers and I worked restlessly with the float. With me playing football, it was a little difficult setting apart time to help my peers. However, I was able to find time and help with nearly everything. As for the Halloween dance, we have discussed with Mr. Perez about the location and such. We have decided that it will take place on the tennis courts. We will have to rope off the nets so that they do not become damaged. There will be cobwebs running through the entirety of the tennis courts. We plan to sell tickets Wednesday through Friday. Homecoming went really well so we are hoping that the dance does too. I was able to help clean up the back to school dance, and help out with boxes for the Homecoming King and Queen. I spent two nights decorating the float and devoted my evening towards that. Unfortunately, I was unable to help with the Lip-sync and poster decorating because of my football games.
Standing Committee- Thus far into the year, Pride Tribe has been quite exhilarating. It is a really simple club to be in. All that is required is to go to as many sports events as possible and just hang out with the student section. The football games have been really fun. The spirit is high and has made the games that much better. Not to mention the band being fantastic.
Special Committee- This year I am not planning to be in any special committee. The only thing that is on my radar is helping decorate for the Halloween dance. If another event needs me, then I will help with that too.
Mentor Ship- My mentor, Spencer Redula, has been excellent. He has provided needed assistance for basically whatever I need, and provides very good insight on what's to come. A few weeks ago, we went to Pizza Plus. It was a very good bonding time. He told me what is coming in the near future. We got to know each other better and it was a win-win situation.
Concerns- As the year has progressed, some concerns have been solved. I feel as if communication has gotten slightly better. However, it is not where I wish for it to be. It's definitely not horrible, but there is room for improvement. I think that information should be relayed throughout all of the grades. Being a Freshman, at times we will be talking about a topic and I am unclear what it is or the expectation.
Positive Comment- I would like to applaud everyone for a successful homecoming. Everybody worked really well with each other. I would like to thank all the upperclassmen for the gratitude they have shown the Freshman Representatives. Derek has been very compassionate towards our class, and it is very reassuring. Spencer Redula has been very helpful with me and so has Derek Nguyen.
One Change- One change I would like to see is the upperclassmen spending more time with the lower classmen. I think that they should bond with us and form a better connection with us.
My Impact- The impact so far that I have had is helping my peers with work. I have helped my peers on math assignments, explaining to them what certain equations and variables mean. I have also helped them in chemistry. I have helped them in labs explaining what the right procedures are. I have also helped during homecoming with decorations and setting up the float. I have done my best to help out others that requested help.
November/December Formal ASB Report

December 9, 2021
Freshman Representative
Position Assessment: The freshman reps haven't been doing many events recently. The latest large event that we did was the Halloween Dance which we made a large profit off of. We've already started planning the staff basketball game and had a meeting about it with Mr. Perez. We have also ordered some supplies for Winterfest, which will happen in January. With it currently being December, we're in the middle of Warm and Fuzzy week and have done some holiday decorating. So far, Leadership did door decorations with personalized bows, then just today was the class/club tree competition. The freshman went with a classic red and green theme since some of our decorations didn't get to us on time, even though we ordered them far in advance. Despite the slight bump in the road, it ended up looking really festive and complete. Individually, we've been working on our resumes and cover letters for upcoming mock interviews. We have also started our final and the secret Santa is soon to come!
Standing Committee: This time of the year, I was a part of multiple standing committees. I took part in door decorating for the school, and I also participated in the blanket drive.
Special Committee: This time of the year I am not in any special committees.
Mentor Ship: During this period of the year, my mentor, Spencer Redula, has been fantastic. Spencer has assisted and helped me with numerous different tasks. For example, Spencer has helped me with my cover letter, bows for door decorations, and has helped me with my website. He gives me great advice for the future and what I can do better.
Concerns: One concern I would like to see would be better communication. On the seventh of December, around 9:00 PM, I was informed by my fellow representatives that we would be decorating a tree at 7 AM. We all were completely bamboozled, and frustrated. Not to mention the mass amount of bubbles flowing in. I think that it was just a miss-communication and a remind message would have been helpful.
Positive Comment: I would like to highlight all of the Freshman reps because of how on top of things we were. Claire, Gia, and Ximena are extremely organized and are always telling me and my peers what we need to do. They show extreme qualities of what a true leader is and it should be recognized by everyone. I also would like to shout out to avid Wang. David is full of wisdom and is such a positive person in general. I wish to be like David one day.
One Change: One change in the leadership program I would like to see is maybe on large events, such as Winter fest, Winter formal, and Warm and Fuzzy Week, maybe the other classes help out. For example, let's say the Freshman Reps are assigned "x" amount of PO's to fill out. I feel that large events would go by more smoothly if this happened.
My Impact: I feel as if I have had a positive impact on RHS the last few months. During Leadership class, I took advice from my evaluation meeting and am trying to get more involved. I am in the conversations they are having and trying to take on new responsibilities. I am also playing soccer. Being pretty skilled and experienced, I am trying to give advice and help out our team to make us better. I have also assisted some of my peers with their math work.

January Formal ASB Report
Nathan Gaines
January, 2022
Freshman Representative
Position Assessment: Thus far as my position as a freshman representative, there have been some things that have happened. So for winterfest, we spent around two days at Claire’s house decorating the posters. There was also a day after school on I believe Thursday where Claire, Sophia, and Gia stayed to decorate the shopping cart. So for winterfest, we were decently busy. We also called a meeting with Mr. Perez about the staff basketball game, and we have that under control for the moment. Also speeches are a thing, I believe that every freshman has gone, besides Abby, and they were all really good.
Standing Committee: I have been in no standing committees at this time.
Special Committee: I have been in no special committee at this time.
Mentorship Evaluation/Committee at time of Meeting: My mentor, Spencer Redula, has been pretty helpful just like always. Despite me not reapplying this year, he has answered all of the questions I have had about various assignments. Spencer has even helped me outside of leadership. For instance, Spencer helped me on my math homework about geometry which dealt with triangles. Spencer was an excellent mentor and next year, he is definitely going to one of the people I miss most.
Concerns: People putting in a lack of effort. Despite there not being any big events happening, besides elections, I feel not many people are taking their work seriously.
Positive Comment: One positive comment is despite electrons coming up, I feel that there is not that much tension among the program. Which is a good thing because it shows that despite the competition and competitiveness of others everyone is handling it really well. From what I’ve seen and heard there hasn’t been that much hatred or back talk going on.
One change: One change I would like to see is a bonding activity, such as maybe a game or a fun activity. Especially since our seniors are going away soon it would be cool to do something with them.
My impact: My impact that I have had would just be assisting my peers with their homework and such. I have also helped remind others of when something is due or what is coming up next. Some friends of mine would ask me what the dress-up days were for Winter Fest and I would go to inform them of what they are. I thought that it was pretty neat to see how people knew I was in leadership, and trusted me.
Standing Committee: I have been in no standing committees at this time.
Special Committee: I have been in no special committee at this time.

February and March Formal ASB Meeting
Nathan Gaines
April 13, 2022
Freshman Representative
Position Assessment: During February and March, I have felt that I have tried my best in everything that I have done. In February, not much was happening with me, however we did have meetings with Perez about the stall basketball game. We have been trying to sort out the teams, and find all of the players from each grade level. Now that we are in March we have had even more meetings with Perez, and we are experiencing a little bit of difficulty. We are having a little bit of trouble with the players because some of them are not responding to our messages. So we are scheduled to have another meeting with Perez soon. During these two months the Almond Blossom Festival has occurred too. It was extremely fun, but my favorite ride broke down, zero gravity. It is basically a ride where you spin really really fast, then you end up sticking to the walls and are just trapped there. I was pretty sad when it shut down, however, the cotton candy was really good. In addition to the festival, there are mock interviews going to take place soon. My interview is on April 26, and I am really excited for it, because I am curious if I should major in CS for college. I also had to create a book for my mentor. It was a book of A-Z and I had to create a sentence of something positive with each letter of the alphabet. It was very time consuming, but it was worth it to see the priceless reaction of gratitude. The Gallery of the Arts was extremely interesting to see also. Some of that art work was remarkable, I couldn’t even imagine drawing anything remotely close to all of the art there. The elder projects were extremely beneficial, to see all of their advice for my next years, it made me really appreciate them and their wisdom that came along with it. I am going to really miss the seniors, and I hope I can maintain my friendships with them.
Standing Committee: I have not been in a special committee at this time.
Special Committee: The special committee that I have been appointed to would be the CHALLENGE. In the challenge, I am part of the Teacher Appreciation department. Everything has been going smoothly, and we have planned out what is going to happen. If it goes accordingly, then it will be fantastic.
Mentorship Evaluation:Spencer and I have been able to bond a lot over our track practices. He is usually speaking to me and some of my friends. We are also on the same 4x100 team. By working together it really strengthens our bond and chemistry. When we are done with conditioning we move to have very mellow conversations and discuss with each other about how to be faster and what we can do differently to better ourselves. Having spent so much time with him it has taught me a lot about himself, and I am super grateful for the time spent with him.
Concerns: One of my concerns would be using time ineffective. During our work days, many people are on their phones, me included, that is a problem that I need to fix. This applies to around 92% of the students in the program. So I believe that we can manage the importance of work days better.
Impact: My impacts have mainly been through track, and a little in the classroom. Being in my first year of track I have made a lot of new friends and we like to push each other. I try to encourage my teammates to do their best, especially when they want to slackoff in conditioning. I have also been helping people with their block starts by introducing a cadence for them to get used to. In the classroom if someone does not understand something, then I will do my best to explain it to them. This also occurs in English. Whenever one of my buddies is lost in Romeo and Juliet, I will try to tell them what has happened thus far. When it comes to studying for a test, I will tell them many different methods to study, such as specific Youtube videos. What I have taken the most from the leadership program is definitely to put others before myself.

Position Assessment: At this point of the year, there have been various events that have happened. One event would have to be Love Ripon. Love Ripon was a really good time where some of the leadership students and my friends got to hang out and have a good time. I really enjoyed giving back to my community and will most definitely do it next year. Another event that happened was the staff vs student basketball game. This event went really well and even though I was unable to attend I heard great things about it. Especially from my friends that played in it. There was also a photographer that attended the event, and turned out some really amazing pictures. A great appreciation towards James, Ximena, and Sophia for being able to run it because everyone else, like myself, had a track meet to attend. Another really big event that happened was the Challenge. From the school’s perspective, it went extremely well and was loved. From behind the curtains however, the Challenge went okay. I believe that we had an excellent plan and that if we followed exactly what it said then it would have gone even better. I believe that our biggest challenge was just communication. The communication was extremely poor and it was an inevitable challenge. However, in all, the Challenge was a success in my opinion. The last event was the banquet. The banquet was very enjoyable and had some really good brownies. It was really neat to see all of our staff members receive their gifts and the amount of appreciation they showed.
Standing Committee: I was in no standing committee at this time of the year.
Special Committee: This time of the year I was in the Teacher Appreciation Committee. When our day was up we executed extremely well, and all of the teachers greatly appreciated what we had done for them. The only thing was we had a little bit of miscommunication and I believe that Derrek was the only one to set up, but other than that the day went smoothly and very well.
Mentorship Evaluation: For the past few months, Spencer and I have been spending most of our time in track. Now that the season is over, we haven’t been able to connect as much but we still maintain a very good relationship. Most of what I have learned the most thus far has been through Spencer, and he has taught me such wonderful things, that I can hang onto for the rest of my life. I know I am just a freshman, but I have been thinking about how all of my friends are going to go to college and we will slowly lose contact in our lives. I am really dreading losing people in my life like Spencer, and I hope he won’t forget about me when he becomes a world renown doctor.
Concerns: Some of my concerns are to do with the challenge because after this year it seemed like that it was a communication disaster. I know I won’t be here next year, but I am interested in seeing how it will be executed considering there are different people in charge this year. However, I believe that our wonderful leadership program will be perfectly fine now knowing what to do differently and how to execute in a mannerly fashion.
Positive Comment: My positive comment would be that there is a high work ethic coming from Mackenzie. I can tell that she has a lot of stuff on her plate, but is still working her tail off. Next year I am eager to see what she has in store for the world’s greatest high school, and I am looking forward to the absolute greatness that will be produced.
Change: One change I would like to make would be with communication. For example, when it was teacher appreciation day, I was only told maybe once or twice about a set up at 730 in the morning. So I believe that Derek was the only person that actually set up and I wish that I had a reminder because I would have loved to help out.
Impact: My impacts have mainly been through track, and a little in the classroom. Being in my first year of track I have made a lot of new friends and we like to push each other. I try to encourage my teammates to do their best, however now that the season is over I haven’t seen these people in a while.
